The War Within
Romans 8:7 – “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
“If you do not win the war within you will never win the war without.” (JKC)
Galatians 5:16-17 “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.”
Live to Win
1 Corinthians 9:25-27 – “And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”

Results Of Fasting
Self-denial
Matthew 16:24 – “Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Right priorities
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Dependence upon God
2 Chronicles 20:3, 12 – “And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.”
vs 12 – “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.”
- Fasting led to God’s divine intervention
The Fast that God has Chosen
Isaiah 58:6-12
6- “Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
7- Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
8- Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.
9- Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
“If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
10- If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
11- The LORD will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
12- Those from among you
Shall build the old waste places;
You shall raise up the foundations of many generations;

Fasting is a way that God Himself has appointed for His people to humble themselves before Him.
The power that makes the Christian life possible is the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:8 – “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
- No other power can enable us to be witnesses of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The power of the Holy Spirit enables us to do the things we could not do in our own strength.
Ephesians 3:20 – “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,” (NIV)
- What God can do depends upon His supernatural power being released in us and through us.
Jesus Walked on Water
Matthew 14:25-26 – “Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.”
Matthew 14:27-29 – “But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”
And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water. So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.”
Matthew 14:30-32 – “But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.”
Matthew 14:33 – “ Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
How does fasting change us?

1 Corinthians 9:25-27 – “Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”
“Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”

Self-denial

Benefits of Fasting

Three Duties of Christians:
- When you give…
Matthew 6:2-4 “So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their full reward. 3But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you”.…(Berean Study Bible)
- When you pray…
Matthew 6:5-6 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (NIV)
- When you fast…
Matthew 6:16-18 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” (NIV)
Giving, Prayer, Fasting
Ecclesiastes 4:12 “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
Prayer and Fasting
Let’s read the story in Matthew 17:14-16
“And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”
Matthew 17:17-19 – “Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.”
Matthew 17:19-21 – “Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.” (KJV)
How much more should fasting be a common practice in our lives!
What is fasting?
Definition: Fasting is voluntarily abstaining from food for spiritual purposes.
Matthew 4:2 – “And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry.”
- Jesus fasted food but did not abstain from water.
Fasting brings a person into a deeper and more intimate relationship with the Lord.
Psalm 42:1-2a “As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”
In Psalm 42:7a – Deep calls unto deep…
Worship God in Spirit and Truth
John 4:23-24 “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
Scriptural Purpose for Fasting
Fasting is the scriptural means ordained by God for us to humble ourselves before Him.
Psalm 35:13 – “I humbled my soul with fasting…” (NAS)
Psalm 35:13 – “I afflicted my soul with fasting…” (ASV)
Here are four scriptures on humbling from the NT
Matthew 18:4 – “Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 23:12 – “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
James 4:10 – “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.”
1 Peter 5:6 – “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,”
Fasting is a way that God Himself has appointed for His people to humble themselves before Him.
Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly, To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?”
Sin Entered the World
Genesis 3:6 – “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food…she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.”
Whose god is their belly!
Philippians 3:18-19 – “they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.”
The Daniel Fast
Fasting for Health and Healing
God has promised in Isaiah 58:6,8 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness, To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free, And that you break every yoke?”
(8) “Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard.”
When we begin fasting and praying for physical health and healing, we must realize that it is God who heals.
Exodus 15:26 – His name is Jehovah Rapha means, “I am the Lord who heals you.”
Read the story of Daniel
Daniel 1:5 – “And the king appointed for them a daily provision of the king’s delicacies and of the wine which he drank, and three years of training for them, so that at the end of that time they might serve before the king.”
Daniel 1:8 – “But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.”
Daniel 1:9-10 – “Now God had brought Daniel into the favor and goodwill of the chief of the eunuchs. And the chief of the eunuchs said to Daniel, “I fear my lord the king, who has appointed your food and drink. For why should he see your faces looking worse than the young men who are your age? Then you would endanger my head before the king.”
Daniel 1:11-12 – “So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.”
Daniel 1:13-15 – “Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.” So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days. And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies.”
Daniel 1:16-17 – “Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables. As for these four young men, God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”
Daniel 1:18-19 – “Now at the end of the days, when the king had said that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. Then the king interviewed them, and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they served before the king.”
Daniel 1:20-21 – “And in all matters of wisdom and understanding about which the king examined them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers who were in all his realm. Thus Daniel continued until the first year of King Cyrus.”
We enter the Daniel fast for two physical reasons:
- As therapy when we are sick and need healing
- As prevention to keep us from becoming sick or getting a disease
The Daniel Fast with holds extra rich foods.
We eat necessities on the Daniel Fast
- To cleanse our digestive system
- Rest our body
- Renew our system

God Can Heal Through Fasting
God has given each of us a wonderful physical body that He calls “His Temple”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Practical Principles to Remember
- The Daniel Fast is longer than one day.
- The Daniel Fast is a partial fast

The contrast of two kingdoms:
Eph 2:1-2
1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. NIV
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. NIV
Gal 5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. NKJV
2 Cor. 3:17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. NIV
God is a Deliverer for those in bondage
2 Samuel 22:1-3
22:1 David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2 He said: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; 3 my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior — from violent men you save me. NIV
Luke 4:17-19
17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, 19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” NIV
Only God raises up Deliverers for those in bondage
Judges 3:9
9 But when they cried out to the Lord, he raised up for them a deliverer, Othniel son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, who saved them. NIV
Acts 7:35-36
35 “This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush. 36 He led them out of Egypt and did wonders and miraculous signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the desert. 7 There he built an altar, and he called the place El Bethel, because it was there that God revealed himself to him when he was fleeing from his brother. NIV
Genesis 37:28 Joseph
28 So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt. NIV
Genesis 39:1
39:1 Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. NIV

Genesis 39:12 Losing your cloak – This is a tough concept that takes God’s grace.
12 She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. NIV

41 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.” 42 Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph’s finger. Isaiah 6:3 – Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!
Revelation 4:8 – Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!
Isaiah 6:1 In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.
How do you see the Lord?
The New American Commentary says: “Each of these symbols—the title Lord, the throne, the lofty position, and the all-encompassing robe—reinforced His sovereignty over all of the universe, over all its kings, over all of their nations, and over all peoples, including the chosen children of Israel.”
WARREN WIERSBE ON TRUE WORSHIP
Warren Wiersbe, in his book on True Worship, says, “We must beware of trying to get chummy with God. I know the apostle John leaned on the bosom of Jesus in the Upper Room; but he fell at the feet of Jesus when he beheld Him in His sovereign glory (Revelation 1:17).” Then Wiersbe continues, “There is an undue familiarity with God that only proves that the worshipper does not really know God at all.”

Isaiah 6:2 “Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.”
- The Hebrew name means “the burning ones.”
Isaiah 6:3 “And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
- Holiness when implied to God’s nature, indicates His absolute moral purity, in this case above His creation of the whole earth.
(McKenna & Ogilvie, 1993) write: “Holy, Holy, Holy.” No other attribute is so praised. Angels do not sing, “Love, Love, Love” or “Justice, Justice, Justice”—they only sing “Holy, Holy, Holy.”
God’s Army is Unseen to the Human Eye
2 Kings 6:15-17 15When the servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots was all around the city. And the servant said, “Alas, my master! - He is the Lord of hosts – “Lord Sabaoth”, The Lord of the Heavenly Armies.
It is God’s holy and glorious presence in which our holiness begins.
Isaiah 6:4-6 “And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke.
So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts.”
- The closer we get to God the more we realize we are unclean.
Isaiah 6:7 “Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”
- The Lord has a remedy for our sins.
Isaiah 6:8 “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”
- The Lord prepares us for our mission.
God is Holiness and his plan for his people is holiness
The Lord proclaims His holiness to Moses:
Leviticus 19:1-2 1And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 Speak to all the congregation of the people of Israel and say to them, You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.
Leviticus 11:44-45; as well as many other places, God proclaims “…ye shall be holy; for I am holy:”
“Be ye holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:16).
This may come as a surprise to some, but this is not a request…it is a command from God.
Holiness is a Command
1 Peter 1:14-16 “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (NIV)
1 Peter 1:17-19 “Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” (NIV)
1 Peter 1:20-21 “He was chosen before the creation of the world but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” (NIV)
1 Peter 1:22-23 “Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.” (NIV)
- Living holy is by faith in Jesus Christ
- We are purified by obeying the truth
Worship is a Lifestyle
Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. (NIV)
2 Corinthians 6:16-18 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. (NIV)
Luke 17:20-21 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
The New Testament Way To Holiness
1 Corinthians 1:28-31 “God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not —to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
- Jesus Christ is our wisdom from God
- Jesus Christi is our righteousness, holiness and redemption.
- We have nothing to boast about except the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Make Jesus Famous!

We Know What the Lord Requires of Us!

WHY DID GOD WANT THEM TO PUT UP STONES AS A MEMORIAL?
1.- TO SHAKE THEIR MEMORY
Israel had a PROBLEM remembering. Moses WARNED them about forgetting –
Deut. 6:12 – “then beware, lest you forget the LORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.”
1 – WE NEED TO REMEMBER WHEN HE BROUGHT US UP!
2 – REMEMBER WHEN HE BROUGHT US OUT!
1 Corinthians 1:26–30 “For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—”
3 – REMEMBER WHEN HE BROUGHT US THROUGH!
God will use people, places, and things as memorial stones to remind us of His faithfulness and His blessings in our lives. God can use YOU, as a “living stone” to be a blessing in someone else’s life.
Don’t forget to thank God for His many blessings, our freedom, our faith, our future.

It’s been said, if God wants to do a great work, He’ll choose a man; if He wants to do an extraordinarily great work, He’ll choose a woman.
Exodus 1:8-10 “Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. And he said to his people, “Look, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we; come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and it happen, in the event of war, that they also join our enemies and fight against us, and so go up out of the land.”
Exodus 1:12-14 “But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were in dread of the children of Israel. So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. And they made their lives bitter with had bondage-in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor. So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. Two God fearing Women
Exodus 1:15-17 “Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, of whom the name of one was Shiphrah and the name of the other Puah; and he said, “When you do the duties of a midwife for the Hebrew women, and see them on the birthstools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” But the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them but saved the male children alive.”
Exodus 1:20-21 “Therefore God dealt well with the midwives, and the people multiplied and grew very mighty. And so it was, because the midwives feared God, that He provided households for them.
Jochebed the Mother of Moses
The story of Israel and their release from Egypt really begins with a Mother not Moses. The Mother of Moses was Jochebed.
Jochebed implies “glory of Jehovah” or “Jehovah (is her or our) glory.” Jochebed is the first person in the Scripture to have a name compounded with “Jah” or “Jehovah.” (All the Women of the Bible, Lockyer, p. 79)
The midwives would not cooperate with Pharoah and the scripture says…
Exodus 1:22-2:4 “So Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you shall cast into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.”
Moses Is Born
2 “And a man of the house of Levi went and took as wife a daughter of Levi. 2 So the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was a beautiful child, she hid him three months. 3 But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of bulrushes for him, daubed it with asphalt and pitch, put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank. 4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.”
Jochebed was not Afraid of the King’s Edict
Hebrews 11:23-29
“By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.”
“By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.”
“By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.
By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.”
- She taught Moses that God is good (Moses rejection of Pleasure)
- In the face of crushing and depressing circumstances she was convinced God is good!
- When we trust that God is good we make right decisions (Exodus 2:2, Hebrews 11:23)
- When we trust that God is good we can release things into His care
- She taught Moses that God is a covenant God (Moses chooses Israel)
- Jochebed taught Moses about the promises of God. The promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to make them great a great nation and to bless all others through them.
- Moses was basing His choice on the character of God.
Malachi 3:6 “Because I, Yahweh, have not changed, you descendants of Jacob have not been destroyed.”
Numbers 23:19 “God is not a man who lies, or a son of man who changes His mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?”
- His promise of judgment to those that reject Jesus
- His promise of salvation to those that receive Jesus
Teach your children to trust the goodness of God and to make decisions based on His character not their circumstances, teach them to believe and respond to the promises of God.
First – She had great respect for human life
- She had an overpowering love to preserve the lives of her children.
Second – She had great respect for spiritual life!
- Moses refused to be an Egyptian prince. A testimony of the spiritual truths he learned from his mother.
- Scripture tells us that Moses was not willing to put aside the spiritual base built by his real mother!
Jochebed overcame all the obstacles with God’s help, you can too!
Jochebed served the same God you can serve. He is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed
Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and
healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
Preaching peace through Jesus Christ – Jesus is Lord of all!
Peace – G1515 – one, peace, quietness, rest, = to set at one again
- God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit and with power
- Healing all who were oppressed by the devil
Demonic Oppression
Oppressed – G2616 – to exercise dominion against
Dictionary.com app – verb (used with object)
- to burden with cruel or unjust impositions or restraints; subject to a burdensome or harsh exercise of authority or power: a people oppressed by totalitarianism.
- to lie heavily upon (the mind, a person, etc.): Care and sorrow oppressed them.
- to weigh down, as sleep or weariness does.
- to put down; subdue or suppress.
- to press upon or against; crush.
Demonic Oppression – “is the term used to represent the “pressure” exerted by demons to
get us to sin, or to keep bound in limitations. Usually they have an open door to gain access to
us.” (Restoring the Foundations, 1994, p. 261)
Healing and Deliverance
Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me, To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
Vs 21 – And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
- Deliverance from demonic oppression was a normal part of His ministry as he showed us the Father’s desire to bring peace into our lives. Peace = “to set at one again”
Demons have Goals
- To prevent someone from receiving salvation
- To prevent Christian maturity
- To make us ineffective
- To try to get us to turn away from God
John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come
that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Typical Oppression by Demons (RTF)
Body: Appetites (lust, gluttony, sex, clothes, etc.), addictions (pornography, Internet,
shopping, overeating, sports, gambling, TV, etc.) Illness (cancer, arthritis, epilepsy, asthma.
“Incurable diseases.” bodily states (sleeplessness, sleepiness, lethargy, pain, nervousness,
etc.)
Soul/Mind: Torment (thoughts of accusation, temptation, distraction, terror, insanity, death
etc.), blocked memory, forgetfulness, lethargy, compulsive thoughts, blocked understanding
of God’s Word, etc.
Soul/Will: Weak will. A will that has no follow through, passive.
Soul/Emotions: Exaggerated emotional states: fear, anxiety, anger, rage, shame, rejection,
grief that is over- extended or out of proportion, etc.
Spirit: Attempted prevention of salvation. Spiritual lethargy, doubt of salvation experience,
unbelief. Can affect, harass, prevent maturing, but not take over in a Christian.
How Demons Enter
Genesis 4:6-7 “Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast?
If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is
crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”
- In general, it is our opening of the door that allows sin (and accompanying demons) to come in.
- The exception is when the demons come with our inheritance.
Open Doors
Ephesians 4:26 Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give
place to the devil.
- Inherited Curses and accompanying demons
- Sins of the flesh – Anger, Fear, Greed, Jealousy/envy, Rebellion, Pride
- Illness – when we are weak and vulnerable
- Emotional Trauma
- Passive/Trance state of mind
- Occult Involvement
Breaking Off Limitations
1 John 3:8 “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”
Luke 4:21-28 “Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered
the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as
one having authority, and not as the scribes. Now there was a man in their synagogue with an
unclean spirit. And he cried out, saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”
But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” And when the unclean spirit
had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. Then they were all
amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new
doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey
Him.” And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.”
Vs 39 “And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out
demons.”
The Kingdom of God
Matthew 12:28 “But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has
come upon you.”
- When demons are cast out it is fulfillment of Jesus purpose to destroy the works of the devil and evidence that the Kingdom of God has come. (JKC)
- The coming of God’s kingdom includes freedom for Demonic Oppression. Jesus ministry included: teaching, preaching, salvation, freedom, healing and deliverance.
Mark 1:14-15 “Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel
of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
Soul Ties, The Ties that Bind
Soul Ties are invisible ties that bind to another person.
Definition: Soul Ties (RTF)
Soul Ties are an ungodly covenant with another person, based on an unhealthy emotional and
or sexual relationship. This covenant binds the two people together. God “honors”, or
recognizes, these covenants. He leaves us free to decide when and if we will appropriate His
provisions to break/cut the ties and release both people.
1 Corinthians 1:15-17 “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then
take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not! Or do you
not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall
become one flesh.” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.”
We see this principle at work in the story about the Israelites and the Gibeonites.
Joshua 9:3-6 “But when the inhabitants of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and
Ai, they worked craftily, and went and pretended to be ambassadors. And they took old sacks
on their donkeys, old wineskins torn and mended, old and patched sandals on their feet, and
old garments on themselves; and all the bread of their provision was dry and moldy. And they
went to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and said to him and to the men of Israel, “We have
come from a far country; now therefore, make a covenant with us.”
Joshua 9:14-16 “Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask
counsel of the LORD. So Joshua made peace with them and made a covenant with them to let
them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them. And it happened at the end of
three days, after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors who dwelt near them.”
- God honors covenants, even ungodly ones that we have made. It is the same with ungodly beliefs. God honors them as covenants with our enemy Satan.
- To break them we must appropriate His provision and renounce any ungodly covenants and soul ties that have been established.
1 Corinthians 6:14-20 “Until that time, remember that your bodies are created with the same
dignity as the Master’s body. You wouldn’t take the Master’s body off to a whorehouse,
would you? I should hope not. There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much
spiritual mystery as physical fact. As written in Scripture, “The two become one.” Since we
want to become spiritually one with the Master, we must not pursue the kind of sex that
avoids commitment and intimacy, leaving us more lonely than ever—the kind of sex that can
never “become one.”” (MSG)
- These ungodly soul ties need to be broken.
Godly Soul ties
We find these in healthy parent child relationships, in balanced, close friendships, and in
intimate healthy marriages.
Forgiveness
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 “Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there
was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, in order that
Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” (NIV)
Forgiveness Prayer
Father, you have made it clear that you require me to forgive. You desire the healing and
freedom for me that forgiveness brings. So today, I choose to forgive all who have set me up
to enter into sin and all who have hurt me. I choose to release them, each and every one. I let
go of all judgments against them, and I let go of all punishments for them I have harbored in
my heart. I turn all of this and all of them over to You.
Holy Spirit I thank you for working forgiveness into my life, and for giving me the grace I need
to forgive, and for continuing to enable me to forgive. In Jesus Name. Amen.
Ministry to Ungodly Soul Ties
Prayer
Father, In the Name of Jesus, I submit myself completely to you. I confess all of my emotional
and sexual sins, as well as my ungodly Soul Ties. I choose to forgive each person that I have
been involved with in any ungodly way. I ask You, Lord, to forgive me for my sin that resulted
in ungodly Soul Ties.
Lord, I receive Your forgiveness, Thank you for forgiving me and for cleansing me.
I choose to forgive myself and no longer to be angry at myself, hate myself, or punish myself.
Lord, I break my ungodly Soul ties with_____________________. I release myself from
him/her. and I release him/her from me. As I do this, Lord, I pray that you would cause
him/her to be all that you want him/her to be, and that You would cause me to be all that you
want me to be.
Lord, please cleanse my mind from all memories of ungodly unions, so I am totally free to give
myself to you and (if you are married) to my spouse.
I renounce and cancel the assignments of all evil spirits attempting to maintain these ungodly
Soul Ties.
Lord, thank you for restoring my soul to wholeness. Let me walk in holiness by your grace. In
the Name of Jesus Christ I pray. Amen
